Not Elendil, the biggest clue is in the last 2 lines.
... the seas of the Bent World fell away beneath it, and the winds of the round sky troubled it no more...

All right, now that I'm done with the first guessing (which as I said was not so sure), I think it could be Earendil (also because of that 'up above' thing in the the first stanza).

You're on track, Earendil does go with the "up above" reference. (I thought that was somewhat on the comical side!).
But the answer is not Earendil. Look at the last lines.....

Huh, I guess I now understand the last two lines: you mean to say that he chose death instead of eternal life, right? Because at first I understood that he chose the elven life instead of that of a mortal... therefore my second answer. Anyhow I still believe this character is connected to the Numenoreans, so my third guessing would be Elros. But still I am not sure, because to me Elros does not seam a 'lesser' king.

It is Elros. We don't know a lot about him besides that he was the first king of Númenor and he lived 500 years.
He was a king but compared to his ancestors he didn't fight great battles or do the legendary things that Beren, Eärendil, Turgon, and Tuor did, and on the "mothers" side, Lúthien, Idril, and Elwing and their great deeds.
He could claim descent from all the main branches of the Eldar, each of the Three Houses of the Edain, and even from the Maiar.
And of course, all of Númenor fell into the sea. His son's sons through 3000+ years failed and lost the great gift the people of Middle Earth were given in the land of Númenor.
The one who chose the Gift instead Of life until the End.
I'm not sure how you interpreted this as the opposite of what I meant. It was my favorite part, lol! The Gift of course was the Gift of Men, "death" and he chose that over life until the end of the world as an Elf.
Sorry you didn't like this one so much but it's your turn now!

Well, I simply misread the last lines, so it's not your fault! And when did I ever say I did not like it? Of course I did, all your riddles are great. I'll see what I can come up with. - - - - A darkness lay over me for a while, And running from it I stumbled and fell; But I was found by someone in the wild, And with that person I went to dwell.
The days were fair in the beginning, But later horrors came our way, And seeing them I cursed the day Plunging to deeps, to end my sinning.I think it is pretty obvious...

That is pretty obvious. I hope some others will play!

It wouldn't be Aredhel, would it? (I'm not so good with riddles)

You were very good, Star, because you had the idea to make this topic here on the forum! But it is not Aredhel.

That is a better guess, but it is not Turin, I am afraid. Work on it, you are not far now.

Oh, Nienor Niniel, then, not Turin. She's the one who jumped, now that I think of it...

Exactly, Aeglos. It is your turn, now. (If anyone has anything unclear within my riddle, ask and I will explain, but I think it is plain once you know the answer.)

Tall and proud stood I, surveying the land. Rich and content was I, And my lords were grand.
None could hurt me, 'til one day Death came flying, and I was lost; On my riches my enemy did lay, My people 'twixt his teeth did toss.
Beware, say I to agressor's glare; My sons shall take not quarter, Not one pound of thy flesh they'll spare But revenge they'll take - vengeance for slaughter.

Just in case I made this too hard: it does not describe a person. Also the lines "death came flying" and "on my riches... did lay" are central.

Oh, so not a person... I am not sure, but I think it has something to do with the Lonely Mountain and Smaug. So perhaps the answer could be Erebor, the Lonely Mountain.

Huh... I've tried and tried, but I don't have the time now to think of a riddle, though I do have a character in mind. Please, someone else could take up on my obligations and keep the game going. Sorry for making you wait.
