Here are the pictures I promised. There are some of Tolkien himself, his family and friends, houses and places and of his grave. Her are some from his younger days:    As a soldier:                from oulmo   from oulmo    from oulmo    from oulmo   Family pictures: Arthur, Mabel and baby Ronald in 1892  Ronald, 13 with his brother Hilary, 11  A young Edith Brat  Tolkien and Edith with three children  Tolkien with a young Christopher  Tolkien with the family in the gardens  Tolkien and Edith in the elder days  The sweetest picture ever:  Friends Fader Francis Morgan, who took good care of Ronald and Hilary.  C.S. Levis or Jack as Tolkien called him  Places: Gracewell house in Sarehole as it looks today. This was Tolkien’s third home  King Edward's School  Exeter college as it looks today Tolkien got in the second time he applied in 1910  22 Northmoor Road in Oxford Tolkien lived here until 1929  20 Northmoor Road in Oxford The family moved in the neighbour house in 1929. They stayed there until 1947  The pub The Eagle and Child or commonly know as The Bird and BabyThis was the meeting place of The Inklings  And here some beautiful pictures of Tolkien’s and Edith’s grave      That's all I have right now. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately I don't have anything to add other than stuff anyone can find using google. Is it just me or does Tolkien in his elder days look very much like a hobbit? :D

I did a talk on Tolkien once and used lots of pictures. It's lovely to put faces to people, isn't it.

awesome pictures arien! uuuhhhh... so many pictures of theyr's grave... scary... i think we must send a pm to harry to make that topic sticky, we will try to find more pictures so to make a really big collection

Thanks for the pictures Arien some of those i have not seen before. Could have done with them 5 years ago when i was doing a HND did a Tolkien related project and spent ages after pictures at the time. Thanks again Roger

These are really good pictures, Arien. I found it especially interesting that Tolkien wrote 'Luithien' under his wife's name and 'Beren' under his own!

Great photos. I saw a few of them researching Tolkien's life for an article I'm writing for my church newsletter, but many of these are new to me. And yes, I think he looked like a Hobbit! Barbara
