Here are the pictures I promised.

There are some of Tolkien himself, his family and friends, houses and places and of his grave.

Her are some from his younger days:

The sweetest picture ever:

Friends

And here some beautiful pictures of Tolkien’s and Edith’s grave

That's all I have right now.
Please pitch in...

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately I don't have anything to add other than stuff anyone can find using google.

Is it just me or does Tolkien in his elder days look very much like a hobbit? :D

I think more about Tom Bombadil... Espicilally when I look at the coloured one where he is laughing holding his pibe...
But yes he actually reminds me of a hobbit too.

I did a talk on Tolkien once and used lots of pictures. It's lovely to put faces to people, isn't it.

These are really good pictures, Arien. I found it especially interesting that Tolkien wrote 'Luithien' under his wife's name and 'Beren' under his own!

Great photos. I saw a few of them researching Tolkien's life for an article I'm writing for my church newsletter, but many of these are new to me. And yes, I think he looked like a Hobbit!
